A new product for testing: the Barista Cloth from TiefenRein. We received the one with two cloths, one in grey and one in brown. The packaging protects the two cloths adequately and does not contain any unnecessary plastic. If you have any questions, you can contact the manufacturer at the email address provided on the packaging. However, no other contact details (such as a telephone number) are printed on the packaging.

After opening the packaging and evaluating it, we take a closer look at the product’s workmanship. How high-quality are the materials used, and how do the feel and appearance rate?

The barista towels arrived complete and undamaged. They appear to be of high quality – this is partly because there was no odour when unpacking them and partly because of the look and feel of the fabric. The thickness of the towels and their pleasant softness were immediately noticeable when they were first taken out of the packaging. There are no loose threads at the seams. This suggests that the barista cloth is made from high-quality materials.

The practical test

The practical test carries the greatest weight. Here, the product must undergo a variety of criteria and examinations by our independent testers. We test the functions promised by the manufacturer of the item under review.

The package contains two TiefenRein barista cloths – one grey and one brown, as described on the packaging and expected. And how good are the cloths at cleaning?

The barista cloth cleans coffee machines and glass surfaces thoroughly and gently. When moistened with water, it removes stains easily. The cloth is highly absorbent, but we expected it to be even more so. Sensitive surfaces such as glass or screens are cleaned gently and without scratching.

Amazon also states that the cloth is suitable for tumble drying. However, the care instructions on the label of the cloth state that it should not be put in the dryer. We did it anyway, and the result was that the cloth survived the gruelling ordeal of a 60-degree wash and subsequent tumble drying unscathed. A 40-degree wash – which is how Barista cloths should be cleaned – at 1200 rpm did not damage the cloth. After the wash cycle, however, the cloths are no longer as soft as they were at the beginning, but this is to be expected with textiles.

General

Our final evaluation category focuses on the price-performance ratio and the conformity with the online presentation. This category is weighted at 10%.

The barista towels from TiefenRein are of very good quality, but compared to other products we have found, they are relatively expensive per unit. However, we do not know the quality of the lower-priced towels and can only speculate here.
